A lot of memorable moments inside the Big Brother House this week were either too pathetic, too morally ambiguous, or just too damn NSFW to make it into Wednesday night's POV episode, and as a first-time live feeder, I'm just now getting a real grasp on the real size of the disconnect between the three edited hours that most fans get per week and the nearly 24/7 access enjoyed by super fans. 

I've always cast a critical eye at the editing of this show over the years I've watched it, looking for production tricks that might reveal more about the storyline show runners might be trying to "sell," against what's really going on in the house. I do it even more now that I have access to so much more of the raw video (and now that so much more of the video is so raw).

One of the trickier things CBS does to suck Big Brother fans in to the live feeds is when they start the contest for new HOH at the end of an eviction episode, but design the competition so that it can never finish before the episode ends. Even though I've considered myself a pretty locked-in BB viewer for the past few years, I've never succumbed, until now...yes friends, I've become a Live Feeder.

The biggest Big Brother game in US history finally gets a little smaller tonight, with the first live eviction episode and some seemingly legitimate drama as to who's going home.

Until then though, the biggest loser in the House remains Aaryn, both in personality and in potential personal appearance fees. She was dropped from her Austin-based talent agency for the character that she's revealed on the live feeds, even if Big Brother producers remain stubbornly consistent in their policy of covering up just how ugly a beautiful Texas girl can actually turn out to be. If I was her, I wouldn't have wanted to be called "the Paula Deen of Big Brother" even before Paula's career went down in flames, so you can imagine how it's got to feel right now.

It's ok, Aaryn, predicting what's going to happen in a game of Big Brother is never easy...

Despite the impressively quick turnaround time on a typical Big Brother episode, the shows that air on CBS three times a week remain slightly behind the real-time events taking place inside the house. If you really want to stay current on what's going on with the houseguests, you've got to follow the live feeds online.

For Power Rankings purposes, I prefer to update my lists after each structured, edited episode on the network, rather than try to stay on top of every single live development. However, a little over one week and just two official episodes into BB15, some of the things happening on-camera but off-air are just impossible to ignore.

My New Summer Writing Project - Big Brother 15 Power Rankings

As much as I enjoy writing,
it can be tough to find the time

I started this personal blog about a year ago with hopes that I'd have written more regularly by now, but hey, it's been a busy year.  

It's never too late to correct course though, and looking back I can see that what most motivated me to keep my keyboard crackling was last summer's Euro '12 soccer tourney. I think the whole "project" nature of the event, the set starting date and finish line, worked well to keep me on task and focused on carving out time each day to consider and arrange my thoughts. Even if those thoughts remained centered on one small, highly-specialized aspect of my life, it was time well spent.

Of course I tried the same thing with Bike Month this past May but quickly lost steam as the more general parts of the daily routine infringed on my free time, both for riding and for writing. But again, it's all about getting back on track here, and since I'm lucky enough to have a big chunk of extra free time coming up in the month of July, I want to do just that.

With all of the above in mind I have two new project ideas for this summer that I can hopefully execute with quality composition and the commitment to match.

Halfway There

So after a belated start to my own personal Bike Month, I made it two days riding out of two today, even though I had to squeeze it in real quick-like, driving part of the way to work this morning and then biking the rest of the commute from there. I figure I might as well make it 2-for-2 on blog posts go as well, even though I don't have a ton to say at the end of this very full day...other than that despite the abbreviated ride, I'm exhausted.

Back on the Bike, Back at the Keyboard

So...six days into May 2013, I finally noticed that it's Bike Month here in Austin.

Without knowing it, I had actually already started participating last week, though it was an observance just about as embarrassing as it was unwitting.

Despite a cold, biting wind on the evening of May 2nd, I took a stab at Austin's popular Thursday Night Social Ride. I wasn't because I knew about the holiday month just kicking off, it was just a desire to get out on the road and stretch my legs a little bit - it has been months since I did any serious riding.
